Solar project at former Forbes Street landfill completed
The former site of the Forbes Street municipal landfill is now the home to a 3.7 MW-DC solar power project. Located in East Providence, Rhode Island, the site is leased from the City of East Providence under a long-term lease agreement.
The project was developed by an affiliate of Hecate Energy and CME Energy and was acquired by an affiliate of D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments, L.L.C. in partnership with Bright Plain Renewable Energy in 2013.
SolBright Renewable Energy served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, and will continue to provide operations and maintenance services to the facility.
The project is expected to produce approximately 5,000-MWhs of clean energy annually for customers of Narragansett Electric Company, a subsidiary of National Grid.
